History: The Tudor Knife & Fork is listed in the Museum of London's Knives and Scabbards as a scabbard with additional sheath.  It dates from 1500 -1650.

Five hundred years ago, neither hosts nor inns provided guests with eating utensils. "Members of the upper class never traveled without their own set of cutlery," Sara Coffin, curator at the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum in New York City.

People used to carry their own cutlery and ate with a pricker, knife, and spoon before the wide use of the fork. Some of the first forks were two-tyned.  The fork replaced the pricker that was used to hold the food down, the knife to cut it, and eaten using the spoon.  This is based on existing sets of knives and forks from all over Europe
