Earlier this year, I collaborated with Raymond's Quiet Press to make a video about how to wear winingas, also called Viking leg wraps, vindingr, vaf-spj̫rr, or wickelbander. Sir Raymond makes the hooks shown in the video, and the winingas come from Historic Enterprises.
The SCA Saxon Boot and the Vlaardingen Viking Shoe are now both available in Black leather! Shoes and Boots also available in black are the 14th Century Medieval Turn Shoe, Mary Rose Tudor shoe, the Landskenecht Tudor shoe, the Medieval Ankle Buckle Shoe, and the Cavalier Renaissance Boot. Of the millions of shoes now dug up before 1600 not many were black. Statistically near 0%. Medieval illuminators painted shoes black; however, more often than not, shoes were brown. I plan to write a long article in the future about leather, color, and tanning. But for now, rejoice two more styles are available in Black!
